Mix No. 4: Blood Orange Old Fashioned

 

A classic old fashioned cocktail with a festive citrusy twist! The color of this drink is perfect for the holidays, plus I always enjoy darker liquor drinks in the winter months. I used Dingle Irish Whiskey — we fell in love with this whiskey during a family trip to Ireland when we spent an afternoon at the Dingle Distillery in Kerry. The measurements below are for one cocktail. Enjoy!

STEP 1: GATHER INGREDIENTS

1 cup water

½ cup honey

A few sprigs of rosemary

1 ½ oz. whiskey

2 oz blood orange juice

2-3 dashes of aromatic bitters

STEP 2: MAKE THE SIMPLE SYRUP

Bring the water, honey, & rosemary to a low boil and simmer for 5 minutes.

STEP 3: STIR THE COCKTAIL

Mix the whiskey, blood orange juice, bitters, and 1 T simple syrup in a cocktail shaker before pouring into the glass of your choice.

STEP 4: ENJOY

Garnish with a slice of orange & a sprig of rosemary. Cheers!
