Introducing The Antique Cameo Collection

I’m so excited to release this collection! Around the holidays, I had the idea of finding authentic cameos, mounting them on hand painted canvas, & framing them. I’m obsessed with the old/new combination, and the way they turned out is exactly — no, better than — how I imagined! According to folklore, cameos have a mystic capacity to attract health & good fortune….and who doesn’t want some of that right now? My heritage is Irish/Italian, so the lucky factor + Mediterranean origin of these cameos makes me very happy.

It was a fun little journey creating these. I sourced all the cameos on Etsy and antique shops, which was a fun challenge since many of the photos online made scale and color tough to decipher. In fact, a couple showed up to my house and were clearly plastic replicas. A few were way smaller than I was expecting…it all ended up being part of the creative process. Plus, most of the sellers on Etsy are so kind and appreciative, sending handwritten notes to accompany your purchase.

Once I received all the cameos and picked the ones I knew I wanted to use, I worked with my framer to bring my vision to life. I worked up mockups in Photoshop and then had a (masked) face-to-face meeting at the frame shop to go through all the options, matting, size, etc. I’m in love with the frames we went with — I think the detailing just adds to the old fashioned feel of these pieces.

Each one of these authentic hand carved cameos is mounted on painted canvas, set against a white linen mat, & framed to 14x14 for that empty spot on your wall. You can shop the full collection on my website! Can’t wait to see where they all end up.
